You can count on a conversation regarding ‘star fleet’ and the vision of building a civilization in space. We’ll cover topics such as the hardware necessary for humans to live on-orbit… but we’ll also look at the social, cultural, business, legal, and policy elements as well. Finally, every month, we will tackle what’s been termed ‘the hardest problem, the Holy Grail’ of space – having babies born off-world! What are the medical, ethical, biological, and technological hurdles to overcome?

James Burk, B.S., PMP, CSM
James is the new Executive Director of the Mars Society, the world’s largest nonprofit space advocacy group dedicated to sending people to Mars. Formerly with Microsoft, James has worked as an engineering project manager and software developer for over twenty years. He leads the Mars Virtual Reality project for the Mars Society, that has created a digital twin of the real-life Mars Desert Research Station.

Michelle Hanlon, LL.M.
Michelle is Co-Director of the Air & Space Law Program at the University of Mississippi School of Law, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Space Law and Faculty Advisor for the Journal of Drone Law and Policy. Michelle co-founded For All Moonkind a nonprofit that is the only organization in the world focused on protecting human cultural heritage in outer space. She was instrumental in the development of the One Small Step Act. For All Moonkind is a Permanent Observer to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Michelle is also President of the National Space Society.

Rick Tumlinson
Rick Tumlinson is the co-founder of several space companies and non-profits including Deep Space Industries, Orbital Outfitters, the New Worlds Institute, and the Space Frontier Foundation. He is an active space entrepreneur and space activist. He has testified on space-related topics before the U.S. Congress six times since 1995. In 2004, Space News magazine listed Tumlinson as one of the 100 most influential people in the space industry.

Egbert Edelbroek, Ph.D. is founder & CEO of SpaceBorn United. This research- and mission design company researches and enables the conditions for human reproduction in space. The research outcomes and missions program provide a crucial contribution for becoming a multi-planetary species. The current focus is enabling conception and early embryo development in LEO, for which SpaceBorn United developing ARTIS (assisted reproductive technology in space).​

Laura Forczyk is the owner of space consulting firm Astralytical specializing in space science, industry, and policy, offering space career coaching services, and publishing industry reports.
She is the author of Rise of the Space Age Millennials (2020) and Becoming Off-Worldly (2022). She runs the private online community Becoming Off-Worldly Together.
She is the VP of Research and Analytics for the Beyond Earth Institute. She serves as a mentor for the Brooke Owens Fellowship program. She is a NASA Subject Matter Expert for astrophysics and planetary science missions.

Dr.  Sumbal Mushtaq
Sumbal Mushtaq, MBBS is a certified and practicing physician from Pakistan. She aspires to have a career in the space life sciences to improve the future of humanity. Her ultimate goal is to become an astronaut. She has already taken the first steps and there will follow more. Dr. Mushtaq's research interest includes reproduction in space setting. Currently, she is working with a private organization, Spaceborn United with the goal of enabling conception in LEO.

Angela Peura, M.A.
Angela Peura is from the Chicago area and attended Boston University for her undergraduate degree where she studied archaeology. She then attended George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute and International Space University’s Space Studies Program. Upon graduating she worked as an independent consultant for several years before starting her current position at NASA headquarters, where she does policy and strategic communications for Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN).

Lisa Klink is a graduate of Duke University. She has written for television shows like Star Trek: Voyager, Hercules and Earth: Final Conflict. She is also a novelist, who has written or co-written three books in the Dead Man series. She has written two novels with Joel Goldman: All In and All Gone. She has also written short stories, graphic novels, and the script for the Borg 4D experience. She currently co-hosts a podcast about Star Trek called the Treksperts Briefing Room.

Michael Laine
Laine has been involved with Space Elevator research since 2001 – as part of the definitive NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts (NIAC) study. At the NIAC conclusion, Laine used the accumulated knowledge to form LiftPort Group to push forward the concept and construct an Elevator on the Moon. Laine is President of LiftPort Group – the commercial effort to build the Lunar Space Elevator. LiftPort Group is an “idea factory” focused on commercializing the spin-off technologies developed in pursuit of the Lunar Space Elevator Infrastructure.
