"Review of Current and Planned Stations"
Who is doing what, when, how, and why? The tasks related to building new infrastructure are rather well understood. The tasks related to building new space stations are similar to that of making new topographical maps, with valleys and hills to be discovered, as humanity has only accomplished the creation of space stations a handful of times. We must create a universal scaffolding to make our efforts repeatable, complimentary, and resource-efficient. |
The next important and congruent stage in producing novel infrastructure, as we move beyond hardware, requires the analysis/assessment of the business of the proposed infrastructure. Who will build it? Who will pay for it? Who will operate it? What will it cost to operate and manage it? What profitable business models can we expect from the investment?
There are presently 14 space stations, currently operating and planned, at some level of development. Of these 14, four of them are governmentally funded projects. What differences can we expect as we shift into more civil and privately backed space stations? When might the construction of these projects begin? and when will they reach completion? Do we have clear bureaucratic alleys, hallways, pathways, and pipelines that each project will navigate?
Regularly scheduled programming, Star Fleet Enterprise
This series is a continuation of our regularly scheduled programming the Star Fleet Enterprise and a step toward being a multi-planetary culture. Last month we covered Hardware: Orbital Manufacturing and the novel challenge of Babies in Space, raising new questions of the limitations and capabilities of humanity. As we gaze forward we can set our sights on the potential of the CisLunar econosphere and realize gains as we invest in an off-Earth market. This will be like no other! What we're doing is a monumental task. That work starts now. Join us!
